Why Lisbon makes your heart jump out of joy?

Lisbon has been on our bucket list for years. But due to expensive flight connections, didn’t manage to get there until this spring when we get to visit a digital marketing conference. Do you remember the feeling when you were a child and you got the toy that was year biggest wish for years? The pure innocent excitement when we landed on Portela Airport reminded me that living for the moment is priceless.

We’ve spent 5 days in Lisbon, and we are hungry to come back soon. Why? What’s the secret that makes this European capital so special and different from the others?

Let us share with you few places to explore and feelings that you will experience.

1. The narrow streets & the architecture of the city or The colors of the city

From Chiado to Bairro Alto  from Bairo Alto to Alfama, from Marques de Pombal to Rossio…wherever you decide to go, and whatever you decide to do- let yourself go! Lisbon is perfect to wander and get lost around. Enjoy the houses with tiles on the facade, the live music artist on almost every corner, the beautiful views from wherever you turn around. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and prepare to spend the whole day outside. Trust us – you don’t want to waist any time staying in your hotel. Just the necessity to sleep – let’s say 5 hours 🙂

2. The amazing views that give you goosebumps

Miradors in Lisbon are all around and that is what makes this city even more spectacular.

Our personal favorites miradors where you can enjoy a nice glass of wine, beer, eat some tapas and relax:

1. Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara

2. The view from Castelo de Sao Jorge

3. Parque Eduardo VI and the view of Avenida da Liberdade

 3. History, fresh air, river views – the joy of Belem

Sit in the Jardim de Torre Belem and enjoy the peaceful morning while there are not many tourists.

Take a walk by the river of Tago, from Belem Tower to the monument of the maritime explorers Padrao dos Descobrimentos.
Get some coffee in the restaurants near by.
If you are interested in history, spend some time and relax in the Gothic Jeronimo monastery.

Get in line for pastries in the famous Pastéis de Belém

4. Bairro Alto – feel the freedom of the vibrant life in Lisbon

Bairro Alto is kind of perfect combination of Berlin’s Kreuzberg, Rome’s Trastevere and Copenhagen’s Nyhavn. This bohemian district has it all!

Its grid of streets is quiet during the day, but is transformed at night into the city’s vibrant nightlife quarter.
Behind colorful and graffiti-ridden facades, there is a variety of traditional and international restaurants, tourist-packed Fado Houses, and a multitude of bars and alternative shops that stay open until late at night.
Here you can find people of all ages, celebrating life with a drink and just bar crawl on the streets. Since everyone is outside the bars, they serve drinks in plastic and you can go and mingle wherever you want around.
Prepare for a crazy night in Bairro Alto, especially on weekends.

5. Sunset on a rooftop bar – oh what a beauty!

There are so many rooftop bars in the city of seven hills, but our favorite is definitely Park Bar in Bairro Alto. You will feel a real appreciation for the view that you get from this top of parking garage. Enjoy the sunset and the magic that happens when the night starts to fall down, and the lights are on – the bridge 25 of April gives the feeling like you are in San Francisco.

Great music, tasty cocktails, and it is usually fully packed on sunset!

6. Fado is the soul of Lisbon

You haven’t been to Lisbon if you haven’t spend a night in a restaurant with Fado. Our recommendation is definitely Alfama district, which in the night turns up to be a Fado paradise. Choose which ever restaurant you want, they are usually small, intimate and in the basements of the houses, get some good wine and open your senses.
Make sure you do not talk while the Fado singers perform, do not order and just listen..

Do not try to make an agenda for places to visit in Lisbon. You will get everywhere, You will see everything. As long as you set your mind free and follow your heart.
